About the Acer corporate event:
The event was aimed at promoting the new range of Chromebooks to head buyers from retail outlets for Google Chromefest 2025.
Acer computing brand was presenting 7 different laptops to 8 groups of 8 people every 15 minutes. This ran over 4 hours, with setup and rehearsal time starting from 9 AM to 1 PM before the show began.
A showcase DJ set was required as guests entered the room, scratching over hip-hop beats to create a buzz. Many guests commented on how they hadn’t seen turntables in years. The DJ used Serato control vinyl and a laptop but still scratched in real time. The vinyl was requested to be green to closely match the Acer brand colours.
Music: there was a set track list of songs to match each laptop, with a quick demo scratch introducing the song for 5 seconds at the relevant moment before fading out for the specialists to present the laptop.
8 songs then an outro. As short and repetitive as this sounds, these were bursts requiring full concentration and immediate demands on cue. Cue, load time, and scratch had to be instant and punchy for each consecutive laptop presented.
As simple as it sounds, it was, in fact, more demanding than a normal party set, as songs played and mixes happened accordingly.
